Firearms Requalification classes are for security guards that already have the BSIS Exposed Firearms Permit. To renew a firearms permit, permit holders will need to complete four (4) range qualifications as follows: Two (2) range qualifications during each 12-month period of the current permit's two-year term with no two (2) range qualifications completed closer than four (4) months apart. Generally, range qualifications are completed about six (6) months apart. Failing to adhere to the required range qualification schedule will result in the permit holder being ineligible for renewal and the need to apply for a new initial firearms permit.

Our BSIS Exposed Firearms Permit Requalification classes are held at the nearest shooting range to our students. The class, which includes the required review training course in the use of force, de-escalation of force, and range qualification, is approximately three to four hours long. Per the standards established by the BSIS, permit holders must qualify with a minimum score of 80% on a course of fire prescribed by the Bureau. During the fourth Firearms Range Qualification, permit holders must pass the Bureau-approved written examination with a minimum score of 85% or more.

The cost of the class includes the opportunity to qualify at the range with THREE firearms.  Participants can also qualify with additional calibers if they already have more than one caliber listed on their current firearms permit. Participants may bring their own firearm(s) to the range. Participants who don't own a firearm can qualify with ONE of G&L Security Trainings loaner firearms at no additional fee (only the following calibers are available for use: 9 mm, .40, .45, .38 & 380).

Participants are responsible for purchasing their own ammunition (50 rounds for each caliber listed on their firearms permit).

NO RELOADS, NO ACCEPTIONS!

Ammunition should be purchased in advance of attending the class since the state of California now requires an Eligibility Check before purchasing ammunition. This background check can take up to 10 days. Hearing and eye protection can be borrowed from G&L Security Training at no additional cost.

Firearms permit holders cannot add additional calibers to a current Firearms Permit at a BSIS Exposed Firearms Requalification Class. To add a caliber to an existing Firearms Permit, permit holders must complete the two-day, 16-hour BSIS Exposed Firearms Class again.

Click here to review a Notice from the BSIS regarding adding calibers to an existing permit.

Participants must bring their valid I.D., BSIS Guard Card and Firearms Permit, and proof of U.S. Citizenship / Permanent Legal Resident information (U.S. Passport, Birth Certificate, or DD-214) to each Firearms Requalification Class (even if it was provided during a previous class).

Students are allowed to Pre-Pay for their qualifications; each qualification is $60.00.  The student is responsible for scheduling qualification shoots and completing all paid qualifications.
